About the role#
As a Product Design Engineering Intern, you will work at the intersection of industrial design and mechanical engineering. You will join a team focused on the early stages of product innovation, where you will sketch, build, test, and iterate on designs. This role is for those who enjoy translating real-world challenges into tangible product solutions with a user-centered focus.
What you'll do#
- Generate new product concepts that prioritize ergonomics, aesthetics, and functional innovation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define solutions that meet functional requirements and user needs.
- Lead and participate in design studies to resolve technical and user-experience challenges.
- Build and test low-fidelity prototypes to gather key insights from user testing.
- Approach design challenges with curiosity and resilience.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program, or graduation within the past year.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino.
- Experience with prototyping tools, including 3D printing and machine shop equipment.
- Strong intuition for mechanical engineering and physics principles.
- Ability to communicate ideas and solutions effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Basic understanding of electronics and components like motors, sensors, and PCBAs is preferred.
- Experience with rapid prototyping tools like Arduino or Raspberry Pi is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship.
- You must be able to work 5 days per week on-site in Needham, Massachusetts.
- This is a paid position.
