About the role#
As a Product Design Engineering Co-op, you will join a team of innovators driving products from early concept through market launch. This role focuses on mechanical design, where you will develop and refine concepts into functional, manufacturable solutions. You will work across the full product lifecycle, collaborating with industrial design, electrical engineering, marketing, and manufacturing partners to transform insights into physical products.
What you'll do#
- Develop and refine new product concepts using a user-centered approach.
- Balance ergonomics, performance, manufacturability, and mechanical feasibility.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate concepts into functional solutions.
- Lead and contribute to design studies and technical investigations.
- Build, test, and iterate quick-turn, low-fidelity prototypes.
- Use hands-on experimentation and user testing to inform design decisions.
- Refine solutions to drive innovation and product excellence.
What you'll need#
- Current student in a bachelor's, master’s, or PhD program, or a graduate within the past year.
- Strong experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino.
- Strong experience using basic prototyping tools, including 3D printing and shop equipment.
- Solid intuition for mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience building physical prototypes using materials like plastics and metals.
- Familiarity with machine shop or lab environments.
- Ability to clearly convey ideas, design intent, and technical solutions.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and solve problems.
- Comfort managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Basic understanding of electronics and components like motors, sensors, and PCBAs is a plus.
- Experience with rapid prototyping platforms such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi is advantageous.
Location & details#
- Location: Needham, Massachusetts.
- Modality: This position is 5 days onsite per week.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Term: Rolling.
