About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will join our team to help create products across categories like floorcare, air purification, garment care, and beauty. You will work alongside experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience through the full product lifecycle, from initial prototyping to final delivery.
What you'll do#
- Brainstorm, sketch, and prototype new product concepts.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to solve consumer challenges.
- Build and test prototypes and lab rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
- Analyze test data and consumer feedback to optimize product functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to identify root causes and propose solutions.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks, gaining exposure to materials, mechanisms, and manufacturing considerations.
- Support CAD modeling, design feasibility analysis, and technical documentation.
- Understand the user journey to drive meaningful product innovations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's, master’s, or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, or graduation within the past year.
- Strong grasp of physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals, including thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
- Hands-on experience building prototypes in plastic and metal using basic machine shop tools.
- Exposure to CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Creo, and 3D printing or laser cutting.
- Familiarity with electronics, including sensors, motors, heaters, and PCBAs, as well as test equipment.
- Analytical skills and a drive to identify and resolve technical problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
- Experience with developer kits like Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship located in Needham, Massachusetts.
- You must be able to work 5 days per week on-site.
- The term runs from May 2027 to August 2027.
- Compensation ranges from $30/hr to $36/hr, determined by your educational level at the time of hire.
