About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work side-by-side with our engineering team to bring home innovations to life. You will spend your summer solving complex technical challenges, building and iterating on prototypes, and translating consumer needs into engineering solutions. This role is designed for those ready to contribute to the development of next-generation products from concept through testing.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the concepting and development of products by brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to explore innovative solutions.
- Build, test, and iterate on prototypes and lab rigs.
- Validate performance, usability, and reliability of designs.
- Analyze testing data and consumer feedback to inform design decisions and optimize functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to uncover root causes and propose solutions.
- Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity.
- Gain exposure to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, and mass production considerations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, or graduation within the past year.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
- Experience with CAD programs like SolidWorks or Creo, and/or 3D printing and laser cutting.
- Experience with hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal using basic machine shop tools.
- Familiarity with electronics, test equipment, and small appliance components such as motors, sensors, heaters, and PCBAs.
- Solid analytical skills and a drive to identify and solve potential problems.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Experience with developer kits like Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi is desirable.
Location & details#
- Location: Needham, Massachusetts.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week on-site.
- Paid internship.
