About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op, you will work alongside our engineering team to develop the next generation of home products. You will gain hands-on experience by moving through the full product lifecycle, from initial concepts to testing and final launch. This role focuses on solving complex technical challenges and translating consumer needs into functional engineering solutions.
What you'll do#
- Brainstorm, sketch, and prototype new product concepts.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers on innovative solutions.
- Build and iterate on prototypes and lab rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
- Analyze testing data and consumer feedback to optimize product functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to solve engineering challenges.
- Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks that grow in complexity over time.
- Develop an understanding of the user journey to drive product innovation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, or graduation within the past year.
- Strong grasp of physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
- Ability to work a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule.
- Experience with CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Creo, and 3D printing or laser cutting.
- Practical experience with prototype development in plastic and metal, including the use of basic machine shop tools.
- Familiarity with electronics, including sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, and common test equipment.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a drive to solve technical problems.
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with developer kits like Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position located in Needham, Massachusetts.
- You must be available to work on-site 5 days per week.
- This is a paid position.
