Sustainability and Community Engagement Fellow

About the role#

This is a full-time, 10-month fellowship for Fall 2026, hosted by the City of Milpitas Public Works Department. As a Sustainability and Community Engagement Fellow, you will support the implementation of the city's Climate Action Plan. The role focuses on community education, outreach, and tracking climate initiatives to help the city meet its net neutrality goals.

What you'll do#

• Develop outreach and education materials focused on all-electric home appliances and carbon-free lifestyle choices.
• Prepare reports and presentations to track climate action plan implementation, metrics, and GHG inventories.
• Recruit, train, and organize community volunteers to support local events and activities.
• Collaborate with city staff and departments to promote sustainability and increase awareness of climate programs.
• Design and staff community events to raise awareness of electrification and decarbonization efforts.

What you'll need#

• Education or experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change, climate action, or environmental policy.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with social media and engaging content creation.
• Basic to intermediate graphic design skills are considered a plus.
• Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship.
• Preferred academic backgrounds include Environmental Engineering, Sociology, Political Science, or Business Administration.
