Climate Engagement Fellow

About the role#

The Climate Engagement Fellow will support the City of Bellevue’s Sustainability Team in implementing climate change mitigation and resilience initiatives. This is a 14-month, full-time fellowship beginning September 1st, 2026. Fellows work in a hybrid capacity, with required onsite attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with occasional evening and weekend events.

What you'll do#

• Support the implementation of Bellevue’s 5-year sustainability plan and associated projects.
• Lead the annual Tree Giveaway and support the annual Heat/Smoke kit distribution program.
• Engage with residents, students, businesses, and community-based organizations regarding climate issues.
• Assist with the implementation of the Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Grant Fund.
• Contribute to the coordination and execution of Bellevue’s annual EarthFest Earth Day event.

What you'll need#

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with public speaking.
• Strong project management and organizational capabilities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Passion for engaging with people from diverse backgrounds on environmental issues.
• Valid WA State Driver's License.
• Current residency within commuting distance of Bellevue, WA.
• Preferred majors include Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Public Health, or Political Science.
