As an Intern in Facilities Operations, you will support the Facilities and Manufacturing Engineering teams in driving continuous improvement across production processes. You will collaborate directly with skilled trades on the production floor to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve workspace utilization. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Support the Facilities and Manufacturing Engineering team in assigned projects.
- Identify and improve manufacturing processes, including plasma cutting, fitting, welding, fabrication, and sub-assembly.
- Perform time studies and data collection to confirm manufacturing norms.
- Calculate workspace requirements and design strategies for effective utilization using AutoCAD.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) and manufacturing instructions for the workforce.
- Identify waste in manufacturing processes using lean methodologies.
- Work directly on the production floor with various trade groups.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering program.
- 3rd or 4th-year Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technology Co-op student.
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies and concepts.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work cross-functionally as part of a team with minimal direction.
- Dedication to proactive continuous improvement and an openness to change.
Location & details#
- Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Work Modality: Fully on-site.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026, to December 18, 2026).
- Compensation: $28.00 per hour.
- Security: This position may involve technical data regulated by the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
