The Intern, Digital Ship will join the Innovation team at Vancouver Shipyards to support the development of scalable digital twin solutions. You will work on integrating real-time sensor data, 3D models, and visualization tools to enhance vessel performance and maintenance. This role involves collaborating with engineers across R&D, new vessel construction, and in-service support to contribute to the full-stack development lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Develop wireframes, app layouts, and custom React components for the frontend.
- Build backend services, including infrastructure mapping, WebSocket integration, token management, and RESTful APIs.
- Design, develop, and maintain sustainable data pipelines.
- Assist with system integration and testing of digital ship technologies.
- Collaborate on the full-stack development lifecycle, including business logic implementation and data visualization.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 3rd or 4th year program of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree.
- Proven foundational technical knowledge gained through class projects and co-op or work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in frontend development using JavaScript (React.js).
- Familiarity with UI/UX principles and the ability to translate mockups into responsive web interfaces.
- Experience designing and optimizing RESTful microservices and APIs using JavaScript (Node.js); knowledge of Python frameworks is an asset.
- Foundational experience with relational database systems.
- Participation in Agile/Scrum environments, including use of Git version control, code reviews, and sprint planning.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively within a team.
Location & details#
- Location: North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026 – December 18, 2026).
- Work Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $28.00 per hour.
- Security: This position may involve technical data regulated by ITAR. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
