    About the role#

    The Intern, Design Build supports production engineering for new construction projects at Vancouver Shipyards. You will participate in all phases of design projects from a production perspective, focusing on improving productivity, waste reduction, and the development of build strategies. This role requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Plan and perform analysis to support program build strategy development, including hull block arrangements, equipment load-out, and fabrication sequences.
    • Develop and implement lean design and Design for Production (DFP) standards and training materials.
    • Analyze production processes to develop, implement, and refine new and existing workflows.
    • Monitor industry and supplier developments to identify new materials, components, and assembly processes that can be transferred to Vancouver Shipyards.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to subordinate engineers to support team capability and effectiveness.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a 2nd or 3rd year bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Computer, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering, or Business Administration or Logistics.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and CAD/CAM software, specifically Cadmatic (preferred) and AutoCAD.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Knowledge of shipbuilding operations, including the relationship between procurement, design, production, and test operations.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work independently.

    • Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
    • Work Modality: This position is fully on-site.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026, to December 18, 2026).
    • Compensation: This is a paid internship.
