About the role#
Schmidt Sciences is hiring up to four AI Institute Fellows in Residence for a 12-18 month program. This role is designed for early career researchers to balance independent project work with contributions to the AI Institute. You will report to the Director of the AI Institute and receive mentorship from a team member to assist with your transition. This is a full-time, paid position based in New York City.
What you'll do#
Your time will be split between your own research and supporting the AI Institute. You will propose a specific research project during the application process to be completed during your fellowship.
- Support the AI Institute by exploring and designing new grantmaking programs.
- Read and assess research proposals across various AI areas, including safety, economics, and scientific discovery.
- Pursue your own research projects that align with the Institute's priorities.
- Organize workshops to build research communities around specific AI topics.
- Represent Schmidt Sciences at external conferences and attend gatherings for grantees.
What you'll need#
We are looking for recent PhD graduates in computer science, data science, mathematics, electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or philosophy.
- Strong academic record with publications relevant to our current priorities.
- A high-quality research proposal that aligns with our goals.
- Experience in AI agent interoperability and communication.
- Understanding of the impact of AI on the labor market.
- Ability to work on-site in New York City.
