About the role#
As a Student Cafe Operating Officer, you will manage the business fundamentals and team development of a cafe on campus. You will hold ownership over operational processes while receiving resources and support from the Saxbys headquarters team. This role is offered to two students per semester, with each student focusing on either People or Finance. You will supervise approximately 25 direct reports and serve as the primary face of the brand on campus.
What you'll do#
- Build and lead a team of peers through recruiting, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Establish the cafe as a community hub through hospitality and local partnerships.
- Drive profitability by managing sales growth, labor costs, and inventory.
- Serve as the face of Saxbys on campus and communicate the company mission to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Operations Lead on strategic initiatives and performance updates.
- Generate social media content and implement local marketing campaigns.
- Assist in recruiting and developing talent for cafe positions.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies.
- Current undergraduate status at the partner organization in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic, professional, or volunteer settings.
- Ability to work 20 hours per week during cafe operating hours.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders or stairs.
- Capacity to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Commitment to supporting and promoting the Saxbys mission and core values.
- Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail is preferred.
