About the role#
We are looking for a Software Engineer Intern to help build autonomous surface vessels. You will work on real-world problems alongside experienced engineers, focusing on autonomy, sensor fusion, and real-time processing. This role is a full-time position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and test software for autonomous systems, such as navigation algorithms, sensor integration, and communication protocols.
- Develop and optimize algorithms for real-time decision-making, path planning, and object detection.
- Participate in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to validate software performance in simulated and real-world environments.
- Write technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and test plans.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate software with hardware components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one of these languages: Python, C++, Typescript, Javascript, or Rust.
- A basic understanding of robotics, autonomous systems, and sensor technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- This role requires access to export-controlled information, meaning you must hold U.S. Person status as defined by U.S. law.
Location & details#
- This internship is based on-site at our headquarters in Austin, Texas.
- The term runs from May through August 2027.
- This is a paid, full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Physical requirements include sitting at a desk for long periods, using office equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
