About the role#
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer Intern to join our team in Austin for the Summer 2027 term. This role focuses on the design, development, and testing of autonomous surface vessels. You will apply your academic background to real-world engineering challenges while supporting our work on maritime platforms.
What you'll do#
- Support the design and prototyping of electro-mechanical systems and software for autonomous vehicles.
- Monitor systems during testing, collect data, and identify trends in component performance or failures.
- Participate in the validation of vessel autonomy algorithms, such as navigation, object detection, and collision avoidance.
- Assist with power calculations and measurements to evaluate vessel performance.
- Integrate propulsion systems, control surfaces, and onboard equipment.
- Conduct research on sensor integration, data processing, and machine learning applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot prototypes and ensure designs meet mission requirements.
- Document your progress, write engineering reports, and present findings to the team.
- Use hand and power tools, along with Arduino and Raspberry PI programming, to support build-related tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical, Computational, or Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
- Basic software skills in Python, C/C++, or Linux.
- Experience operating, diagnosing, or repairing electrical or electro-mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with electrical schematics, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with engineering report writing, data analysis, hand tools, and power tools.
- Preferred coursework includes Circuit Analysis, Analog Design, Digital Logic, Embedded Systems, Real Time Operating Systems, Algorithms, and Data Structures.
- Preferred experience includes PCB design, SPICE-based circuit simulations, and networking concepts like ethernet, CAN, and serial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or in a team.

- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Austin, Texas.
- The term runs from May through August 2027.
- This position requires U.S. Person status to access export-controlled information.
