About the role#
Saronic Technologies is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer Intern to join the team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on real-world problems that contribute to the development of our autonomous surface vessels. This position involves a mix of software development, field deployment, and hands-on problem solving. You will be mentored by experienced Forward Deployed Engineers while working on autonomy, sensor fusion, and real-time processing.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and test software components for autonomous systems, including navigation algorithms, sensor integration, and communication protocols.
- Develop and optimize algorithms for real-time decision-making, path planning, and object detection.
- Assist in building testing frameworks and participate in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to validate performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, and networking issues during deployments.
- Write technical documentation, such as design specifications, user manuals, and test plans.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate software with hardware components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Programming proficiency in Python, C++, Typescript, Javascript, or Rust.
- A basic understanding of robotics principles, autonomous systems, and sensor technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Willingness to travel for field testing of ASV systems in maritime settings.
- This role requires U.S. Person status to access export-controlled information.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
