About the role#
This internship is part of our Grid business unit for the summer of 2027. You will work on a project team alongside senior engineers to design new infrastructure and upgrade existing transmission and distribution systems. This is a full-time, paid position that offers a hybrid work arrangement.
What you'll do#
- Assist with engineering calculations, design work, and technical specifications.
- Track and evaluate project progress, activities, and associated data.
- Prepare documents for the procurement of major equipment, structures, and installation services.
- Use data and modern tools, including automation and AI, to solve engineering problems.
- Use scripting or automation to draft design documentation, summarize technical reports, and perform calculations.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science program in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Students in other engineering majors may be considered if they have coursework in statics, strength of materials, geotechnical engineering, or electrical power.
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited program is preferred.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Experience identifying issues, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in your community or on campus.
- Prior internship or co-op experience in this field is a plus.

- Location: Cary, North Carolina.
- Schedule: Full-time, Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with an expectation of three days per week in the office.
