About the role#
As a Substation Engineer Intern in our Grid business unit, you will join a project team to assist with the execution of engineering work. You will contribute to projects involving the design of new, modified, or upgraded transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. You will work under the direction of senior engineers to apply your academic background to real-world engineering challenges.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and associated data.
- Prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Use modern tools, including automation and agentic AI, to solve engineering problems, improve workflows, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Develop scripts or programs in tools like Python, MATLAB, or Excel to automate calculations and design checks.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science program, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of design techniques and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Coursework or experience in coding, 3D modeling, or agentic AI is a plus.
