    About the role#

    As a Substation Engineer Intern in our Grid business unit, you will join a project team to support senior engineers. This role focuses on the design, modification, and upgrade of transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. You will apply your engineering background to real project work during the summer of 2027. We expect interns to solve problems using modern tools, including automation and agentic AI, to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs.

    What you'll do#

    • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
    • Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and related data.
    • Participate in power designs for transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems.
    • Prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
    • Use programming or scripting, such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel, to automate calculations and design checks.
    • Use engineering judgment to verify results when using AI tools to summarize documents or draft design documentation.

    What you'll need#

    • Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program.
    • Strong preference for students in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of design techniques and principles for technical plans, blueprints, and models.
    • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
    • Coursework or experience in coding, 3D modeling, or AI applications is valued.

    • This internship is based on-site in Hamilton, New Jersey.
    • The position is full-time for the summer 2027 term.
    • This is a paid internship.
