About the role#
This summer internship provides an opportunity to apply your academic background in instrumentation and controls engineering. You will work within project teams on the design of power plants, facility modifications, and oil and gas projects. You will receive guidance from senior engineers through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design of process control systems.
- Prepare specifications for the procurement of equipment and installation services.
- Develop design deliverables such as P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, cause and effect matrices, control narratives, network architecture, cable schedules, and location plans.
- Solve engineering problems using data and modern tools, including automation and AI, to improve workflows and design delivery.
- Use programming or scripting skills like Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel to automate calculations and reporting.
What you'll need#
- BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with graduation in Spring 2028 or Winter 2027.
- Enrollment in an ABET-approved program.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to design deliverables and technical problem solving.
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel and Access.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- An emphasis on control systems is preferred.
- Related internship or co-op experience and leadership experience in campus or community settings are valued.
