About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern in our Nuclear Power Group, you will contribute to projects that modernize electrical systems for nuclear power stations. You will work on initiatives including plant life extensions, small modular reactors, and advanced reactor facilities. You will receive supervision from experienced engineers while gaining exposure to industry standards and technical processes. This role offers an introduction to professional licensure and career development in the nuclear sector.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering calculations and design tasks for nuclear power generating stations.
- Perform protection and coordination studies, cable sizing, and medium and low voltage system design.
- Conduct DC battery sizing and analyses to support safety-related systems.
- Use ETAP software for power systems analysis and modeling.
- Assist with the design, selection, and integration of major electrical equipment like switchgear, transformers, and breakers.
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams and interface with client stakeholders such as Operations and Systems Engineering representatives.
- Collaborate with designers and drafters to translate engineering concepts into detailed drawings.
- Develop professional skills by managing tasks within fixed project schedules and budgets.
- Participate in a multidisciplinary mock engineering project to solve complex design challenges.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong academic background and coursework.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior internship or co-op experience is preferred.
- Understanding of the practical application of electrical and mechanical engineering is preferred.
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program is preferred.
