About the role#
This co-op position is based in the Data and Computational Science department within the mRNA Center of Excellence. You will work on developing first-principle, machine-learning, and hybrid models to support mRNA-based process development. This role focuses on drug-product unit operations, including T-mixing and Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF).
What you'll do#
- Develop and validate first-principle, ML, and hybrid models for unit operations like T-mixing and TFF.
- Apply CFD, Molecular Dynamics, or Quantum Chemistry simulations to characterize mixing behavior, nanoparticle formation, and molecular-level interactions.
- Investigate how process parameters impact critical quality attributes.
- Quantify uncertainties using statistical and computational methods.
- Design and execute Design of Experiments (DoE) for model structure selection, parameter estimation, and process optimization.
- Analyze data from experiments and simulations to generate insights.
- Document modeling workflows, results, and recommendations in technical reports and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Science, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Foundational knowledge of mRNA technology, lipid nanoparticle formulation, or biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
- Experience developing physics-informed or physics-constrained ML, first-principle models, CFD, Molecular Dynamics, or Quantum Chemistry simulations.
- Proficiency in at least one modeling or programming tool, such as Ansys Fluent, Python, Julia, MATLAB, or gPROMS.
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE), uncertainty quantification, or Bayesian optimization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Location: Waltham, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
