About the role#
The Assistant in Training (AIT) program is a structured, two-facility internship experience for emerging agronomy professionals. This role is a partnership between Sand Valley and 21 Golf Club. You will build technical agronomy expertise and leadership skills while supporting daily operations at two distinct golf environments. The program includes a phase at The Lido in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, followed by a phase at 21 Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily planning, staffing schedules, and the execution of maintenance activities.
- Train, guide, and supervise seasonal team members with a focus on quality and safety.
- Support irrigation, drainage, water management, and turf health programs.
- Participate in course construction, renovation, and specialty maintenance projects.
- Assist with fertilizer, aeration, and integrated pest management applications.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma is required.
- Preferred candidates hold or are currently enrolled in a certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree program related to turfgrass or a related field.
- Previous golf course maintenance experience is preferred.
- A strong interest in building a long-term career in golf course management.
- A working knowledge of agronomy, irrigation, and course maintenance practices, or a strong desire to learn.
- Majors in Agriculture, Environmental Engineering, Biology, or Kinesiology are relevant to this work.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The program runs from Summer 2027 through Fall 2027, with additional time extending into 2028.
- Work is on-site in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, with a required transition to South Carolina for the second phase of the program.
About Sand Valley
Sand Valley is a golf resort and community situated on 12,000 acres in central Wisconsin. Founded in 2016 by Michael and Chris Keiser, the property features five golf courses and a 16-court grass tennis facility. The resort provides year-round outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and ice hockey. It employs between 201 and 500 people.
