About the role#
Sacred Heart Community Service is seeking two interns for a 16-week program within the Essential Services Department. This role provides practical experience in food pantry and clothes closet operations, warehouse logistics, and nonprofit human services. Interns rotate through various stations to support Saturday operations, receiving instruction and supervision from the Warehouse Manager. This is an unpaid, on-site internship for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and organize volunteer workstations before activities begin.
- Sort produce and other packaged or unpackaged food according to food-handling and sanitation procedures.
- Move food, clothing, pallets, bins, and supplies between storage and staging areas.
- Participate in required safety reviews and follow all warehouse-safety procedures.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and relocating donated food and supplies.
- Maintain orderly work areas and assist with station breakdown and end-of-shift organization.
What you'll need#
- At least 17 years old at the start of the internship.
- Available Saturdays, 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
- Ability to attend at least 13 of the 16 scheduled Saturdays.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn about food-pantry, clothes-closet, warehouse, and nonprofit operations.
- Ability to provide and wear closed-toe, nonslip shoes for every shift.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including prolonged standing and walking, and lifting up to 30 pounds independently.
