About the role#
Sacred Heart Community Service offers a 16-week internship for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in warehouse logistics, food-pantry operations, and nonprofit human services. This role supports the Essential Services Department by assisting with the Saturday food-pantry and clothes-closet operations. Interns rotate through various stations to learn about food handling, workplace safety, and volunteer coordination under the supervision of the Warehouse Manager. This is an unpaid, on-site position. To earn a certificate of completion, interns must attend at least 13 of the 16 scheduled Saturdays.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and organize volunteer workstations before activities begin.
- Sort produce and other food items according to sanitation procedures.
- Move food, clothing, pallets, bins, and supplies between storage and staging areas.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and relocating donated goods.
- Participate in required safety reviews and follow all warehouse-safety procedures.
- Support staff and volunteers by monitoring supplies and maintaining an efficient workflow.
- Assist with station breakdown and end-of-shift warehouse organization.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 17 years old at the start of the internship.
- Available Saturdays from 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
- Dependable, punctual, and capable of following both verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn about food-pantry, clothes-closet, warehouse, and nonprofit operations.
- Ability to provide and wear closed-toe, nonslip shoes for every shift.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds independently (or up to 50 pounds with assistance).
- Preferred majors include Logistics, Human Resources, Public Health, Business Administration, or Psychology.
