About the role#
This Mechanical Engineer Co-Op position is based at S&C Electric Company headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. You will support the Polymer Products process and design engineering team. The role reports to the Assistant Manager of Tool Design. This is a full-time, paid position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Support the continuous improvement of processes, tools, equipment, and manufactured products.
- Participate in problem-solving activities.
- Conduct experiments and write engineering test reports that detail procedures, results, analyses, and conclusions.
- Work with the operations team to create instruction bulletins for standard work practices.
- Collaborate with the design engineering team to develop new molds, fixtures, and tools.
- Design plant layouts or part and tool models using CAD software.
- Create project documentation, including drawings and specifications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Mechanical Engineering degree program or a related major.
- Status as a student returning to school full-time after the work session.
- Ability to think analytically, independently, and creatively.
- Comfort working with people in a production or plant environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
- Basic bookkeeping skills and the ability to read drawings.
- Familiarity with CAD or simulation software is preferred.
