About the role#
The Student Financial Services Counselor acts as a primary contact for the Student Financial Services department. You will support students and families by managing inquiries via phone and email while providing guidance on financial aid, student accounts, and money management. This role requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.
What you'll do#
- Counsel students and families on financial aid eligibility, funding, and application procedures.
- Manage student account functions including payment processing and outreach for outstanding balances.
- Audit and reconcile student account receivables.
- Review and verify student scholarship eligibility.
- Track and record outside scholarships and manage third-party invoicing.
- Assist with federal verification processes to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Post and reconcile student payments.
- Create student statements and tax forms, including 1098-T and Canadian tax documents.
- Support department programs such as financial literacy sessions, orientation, and recruitment events.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Assist with the hiring, training, and management of student employees.
- Provide front desk coverage and handle office supply orders.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of experience in financial aid or student financial services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and student information databases.
- A demonstrated ability to work within a diverse and inclusive culture.
- Knowledge of Title IV regulations and Workday Student experience are preferred.
