About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern at Relling, you will work on the stack that moves a policy from initial human demonstration to running on a production line. You will own projects that ship, rather than working on side tasks. We prioritize evidence over assumptions and value independent verification of results. You should be comfortable reporting failures early and working with physical hardware.
What you'll do#
- Build data collection tools, including teleop capture, episode management, and labeling pipelines.
- Develop training and evaluation infrastructure, such as reproducible runs, checkpoint management, and evaluation harnesses.
- Work on imitation learning, visual servoing, and observation-space design.
- Manage perception tasks by using segmentation and tracking models to feed structured observations to controllers.
- Deploy policies onto real hardware and ensure they run reliably at control frequencies.
- Perform maintenance tasks like fixing data loaders, chasing timing mismatches, and re-cutting fixtures.
- Monitor hardware cells during failure testing.
What you'll need#
- Strong Python skills and experience writing code for others to maintain.
- Comfort with PyTorch and the ability to debug training loops.
- Proficiency in Linux and git.
- Empirical instincts to isolate variables when troubleshooting.
- Current enrollment in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated skill.
- Optional experience includes hands-on work with robots (ROS/ROS2, arm kinematics, calibration), modern manipulation policies, CAD, or fixturing.
Location & details#
- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Employment type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $20 - $60 per month.
