About the role#
QuEra Computing Inc. is looking for interns to help advance the software that connects quantum applications to neutral-atom hardware. You will work alongside software engineers and physicists on research and engineering projects at the intersection of programming languages, compilers, and quantum computing. Each intern works with a mentor on a project matched to their interests and team priorities. This role involves building software infrastructure, developing new compilation methods, and integrating tools with quantum hardware.
What you'll do#
- Investigate research questions in quantum compilation, programming languages, or scientific software.
- Develop prototypes and evaluate approaches through experiments and benchmarks.
- Create domain-specific languages, intermediate representations, compiler analyses, and transformations for quantum circuits, atom movement, or pulse-level control.
- Build and improve compiler infrastructure using Rust or Python.
- Support integration with quantum hardware platforms.
- Collaborate with your mentor, engineers, and physicists to define project goals and discuss technical approaches.
- Contribute tests, documentation, and reproducible examples or experiments.
What you'll need#
- Experience programming in Python, Rust, or another relevant language.
- A foundation in computer science or computational methods.
- Interest in research or software engineering applied to compilers and scientific software.
- Ability to approach technical problems systematically and communicate results clearly.
- Enthusiasm for collaborative work and building tools for researchers.
- Academic training or research in computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with compiler development, intermediate representations like SSA, program analysis, or optimization.
- Knowledge of programming language design, type systems, or theory.
- Experience with systems programming or Python-based scientific software.
- Familiarity with quantum computing, quantum error correction, or AMO physics.
- Experience with version control, code review, testing, debugging, or open-source projects.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The role is full-time and paid.
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Internship terms are flexible and can be arranged around your availability.
