About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to bridge engineering, operations, and human factors in a regulated nuclear environment. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to translate complex hardware and software designs into clear, executable procedures that meet DOE and NRC standards.
What you'll do#
- Develop and refine operational procedures that integrate software and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Ensure Reactor Operators and Senior Reactor Operators can safely execute test, commissioning, and operational activities.
- Improve operator interfaces, procedural workflows, and software tools by collaborating with engineering staff.
- Support the testing and iterative improvement of digital twin scenarios, operator systems, and human-machine interfaces.
- Maintain strict formatting, clarity, and usability in all procedural documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Gain firsthand experience by ensuring procedures align with real-world execution.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in managing or optimizing complex hardware and software processes for testing and operations.
- Ability to apply first principles thinking to solve problems in uncertain or ambiguous situations.
- Hands-on experience with technical procedure development, human factors engineering, or operational interface design.
- Proficiency in Python and UNIX for procedure testing within simulator environments.
- Experience with user-centered instructions for operational workflows.

- The role is based on-site at our headquarters in El Segundo, California.
- This is a full-time summer 2027 internship.
- This position is paid.
- This role involves access to technology subject to U.S. export controls. Any offer is contingent upon your capacity to serve in compliance with these regulations.

Radiant produces portable nuclear microreactors. The company is based in El Segundo, California and employs between 51 and 200 people. It was founded in 2020. The firm is currently developing a 1 MW failsafe microreactor known as Kaleidos.
