About the role#
Quantum Signal AI is hiring an Embedded and Real-Time Software Intern for the summer of 2027. You will work on low-level software projects involving sensor integration, real-time networking, and infotainment hardware. This role is based at our office in Saline, Michigan. We focus on building fundamental engineering knowledge through hands-on experience and mentorship.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, test, and maintain real-time applications and tooling for various architectures.
- Work with complex systems including sensors, microcontrollers, networking, custom electronics, and in-vehicle hardware.
- Collaborate with mentors and teams of software, electrical, mechanical, and research engineers.
- Develop tests and execute test plans.
- Create and update supporting project documentation.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree program, with student status maintained through the term following the internship.
- Strong programming fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and debugging.
- Experience developing software in C or C++ and working in Linux environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware to identify root causes.
- Interest in low-level software, embedded systems, and hardware-facing development.
- A willingness to ask for feedback and help when needed.
- Experience gained through coursework, clubs, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Bonus points for experience with microcontrollers (Arduino, STM32, ESP32), Real-Time Operating Systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, NuttX), or Embedded Linux (Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone).
- Familiarity with C/C++ tooling (gcc, CMake, gdb), serial protocols (I2C, SPI, UART), high-speed connectivity (Ethernet, USB, CAN), sensor processing, or video/audio compression is a plus.

- Compensation: $29.00 per hour.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
