About the role#
As a Transmission Line Engineering Intern, you will work with engineers and project managers to design, maintain, and upgrade high-voltage transmission infrastructure. This role provides hands-on experience with both traditional engineering methods and industry innovations used to support the electric grid.
What you'll do#
- Assist with overhead transmission line design, including PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, and structure analysis.
- Support drafting and mapping tasks using AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar software.
- Perform basic engineering calculations, such as sag-tension analysis and pole loading checks, under supervision.
- Prepare documentation, reports, and design packages for project deliverables.
- Implement engineering redlines and ensure drawing accuracy.
- Participate in design reviews, field data collection, and technical meetings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and refine engineering solutions.
- Maintain organized records of design data, drawings, and project notes.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Familiarity with design software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or PLS-CADD.
- Basic understanding of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IBC.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in power delivery systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

- Schedule: Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week).
