About the role#
As an Engineering Intern on the Transmission Line team, you will work with engineers and project managers to design and maintain high-voltage transmission infrastructure. You will gain hands-on experience with engineering methods used to support the electric grid.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineers with overhead transmission line design, including PLS-CADD modeling and structure analysis.
- Support drafting and mapping tasks using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or ArcGIS.
- Perform engineering calculations such as sag-tension analysis and pole loading checks.
- Prepare documentation, reports, and design packages for project deliverables.
- Participate in design reviews, field data collection, and technical meetings.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
- Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or PLS-CADD.
- A basic understanding of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IBC.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in power delivery systems.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- The role is on-site and full-time, working approximately 40 hours per week.
- This is a paid internship with a rolling term.
