About the role#
As an Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting substation design projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers and designers to contribute to real projects while learning about physical layout, protection and control systems, and industry standards. This role is for students who are curious about the energy industry and want to learn about engineering design.
What you'll do#
- Assist in designing physical substation components such as yard layouts, grounding, and control building arrangements.
- Support the development of protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Prepare design drawings, calculations, and bills of material.
- Learn and apply engineering standards including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Participate in quality reviews and collaborate with engineers to refine designs.
- Maintain project documentation and contribute to problem-solving discussions in team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Interest in learning about substation components and design principles.
- Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering software.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
