About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in the heavy construction industry. You will work alongside engineers in both field and office settings to prepare for a career in construction. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
Your responsibilities cover safety, project documentation, and field operations.
- Lead or assist with Tool Box Safety Talks and Daily Safety Huddles.
- Maintain the Project Safety Manual and perform jobsite safety inspections.
- Manage One Call Center requests to protect underground utilities.
- Keep the Hazardous Communication Program and MSDS filing system current.
- Track daily quantities with the Superintendent and enter data into the system.
- Monitor project plans and track work completion.
- Review monthly estimates and alert managers to potential budget overruns or under runs.
- Maintain logs for general correspondence, shop drawings, subcontractors, and material deliveries.
- Track asphalt and other major materials delivered to the site.
- Enter daily payroll information by task and assist with productivity tracking.
- Manage Request for Information (RFI) documents sent to the owner.
- Assist with material purchasing and estimating additional work.
- Review project plans to ensure work meets requirements.
- Help develop project look-ahead schedules.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering or Construction Management program.
- An interest in heavy construction, including site-work, roads, or environmental projects.
