About the role#
As a Packaging Engineer Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Director of Packaging Engineering. This role supports departments including Purchasing, Marketing, Production, Planning, and Creative Services. You will focus on designing and testing packaging materials while identifying ways to reduce costs through improved design and systems. This is a full-time, paid position based on-site in Reading, Pennsylvania.
What you'll do#
- Support the design and testing of packages and packaging materials.
- Identify and investigate opportunities to reduce costs on packaging materials and labor.
- Assist production and manufacturing teams in resolving packaging issues and implementing new products.
- Maintain the development of structural and protective packaging components.
- Specify and design product packaging to ensure product integrity under various shipping and display conditions.
- Test, analyze, and select materials based on durability and cost effectiveness.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a BS in Packaging Engineering or a related technical discipline, or a recent graduate.
- Knowledge of food packaging material science.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Competence in CAD software like AutoCAD and palletization software such as TOPS or CAPE.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
