About the role#
As a Greenkeeper Intern at The Links at Spanish Bay, you will work under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent. This is a full-time, on-site, paid position. You may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the course. Because we are open seven days a week, your schedule may include holidays and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine manual labor and semi-skilled grounds construction.
- Operate mowers, string trimmers, and utility vehicles.
- Maintain greens, aprons, tees, and sand bunkers.
- Set tee markers and cups daily.
- Replace flags and maintain ball washers.
- Sand and seed divots, and clean flower beds or forested sites.
- Assist with the construction of new greens, tees, and fairways, including grading soil and laying sod.
- Excavate and backfill trenches with hand tools.
- Maintain equipment fuel levels and report mechanical issues to the shop.
- Clean maintenance areas and wash pads.
- Occasionally operate larger equipment like dump trucks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a two or four year Turfgrass Management degree or certificate program, or a related field.
- A valid driver license with 2 points or less.
- General knowledge of golf turf fundamentals and terminology.
- A willingness to learn and expand your skill set.
- Prior golf course or sports turf experience is preferred.
- A background in golf is preferred.
