Data Science Student

About the role#

PCL Construction is seeking a Data Science Student for the Canadian Industrial Division district office in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Fall 2026 term, with a duration of 8 or 12 months starting in September 2026. You will work under the direct supervision of the Manager, Data Science. High-performing interns may have the opportunity to complete a design-focused capstone project during the final two months of their placement.

What you'll do#

• Perform exploratory data analysis and present findings to the team.
• Prepare and clean data sets for machine learning modeling and visualization.
• Train machine learning systems using data annotation and benchmarking techniques.
• Assist in the assessment of AI/ML model performance and propose improvements.
• Create data visualizations using industry-leading tools to summarize results for stakeholders.
• Document project results, including successes and lessons learned.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a postsecondary program in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify and visualize key insights.
• Coursework in statistics, specifically regarding regression models and clustering approaches.
• Prior exposure to a statistical or scientific programming environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with both technical experts and business staff.
