About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience with the protection and control equipment that keeps the power grid running. You will work on substation construction projects, test relaying schemes, and analyze system performance. This is a 3-month, full-time, paid position with the potential for conversion. You must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
What you'll do#
- Install protection and control facilities and calibrate equipment.
- Develop and maintain testing plans for protective relaying systems.
- Monitor and analyze the performance of protection systems and SCADA devices.
- Write procedures for engineering and craft personnel to support safe construction and maintenance.
- Provide technical direction to help maintain the safe operation of the transmission system.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in electrical or electronic theory and computer hardware and software.
- Strong leadership abilities and a commitment to discipline.
- Effective communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility and organizational skills to handle diverse work.
- A high school diploma or GED is required. We are looking for candidates who have completed the Navy Electronics Technician Nuclear (ETN) or Electrician Mate Nuclear (EMN) programs, or those holding a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology degree.

This role is on-site with positions available in Dallas, Ft Worth, Odessa, Tyler, and Waco, Texas. This is a full-time, paid internship.
