About the role#
As a Nurse Intern, you provide direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role is designed for students currently enrolled in a prelicensure nursing program who want to gain practical experience while supporting clinical teams. You will assist with patient assessments, treatments, and daily care tasks while learning to adapt your communication and behavior to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient assessments and report findings to your supervising Registered Nurse.
- Administer medications and treatments under direct supervision.
- Evaluate patient responses to care and document outcomes in the electronic medical record.
- Update nursing care plans and assist with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients.
- Answer call lights and help patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities.
- Communicate changes in a patient's clinical condition, including diagnostic results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate, Baccalaureate, or Diploma prelicensure nursing program.
- Completion of at least one hospital-based clinical rotation.
- Proficiency with computers and web-based software applications.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to perform heavy work, including moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, part-time position with rolling terms.
- Locations include various sites across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Slidell, Meridian, and more.
- This role involves routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential communicable diseases.
