About the role#
This is a part-time, paid internship with the Oakland County Corporation Counsel. Interns work on-site in Pontiac, Michigan, during the Summer 2027 term. You will work under the supervision of professional staff to support legal operations and assist attorneys with active cases.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research using statutes, judicial decisions, legal codes, constitutions, and secondary sources.
- Analyze legal issues and draft written opinions, summaries, and recommendations.
- Help attorneys prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and contract-related materials.
- Support discovery preparation and assist in formulating Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) responses.
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and meetings with County officials to observe policy making.
- Assist attorneys at various stages of litigation and trial preparation.
- Maintain accurate case records using department-specific software and case management systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
- Ability to communicate clearly, operate office equipment, handle supplies, and prepare written documents.
