    About the role#

    The Mechanical Engineering Co-Op program at nVent offers a structured, rotational experience within the Electrical Connections business. You will work across departments including Product Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, and Labs and Compliance. This role allows you to apply academic knowledge to practical workplace projects, ranging from initial design and development to testing and production.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform engineering calculations to analyze product designs for functionality and accuracy.
    • Assist with technical issues related to product design, system design, and compliance.
    • Participate in site visits and work directly with end-user customers.
    • Present in design review meetings.
    • Use 2D and 3D modeling software to create and maintain engineering documentation.
    • Fabricate and evaluate product concepts.
    • Create detailed drawings, 3D models, schematics, specifications, installation instructions, assembly prints, and test reports.
    • Utilize analytical tools including Finite Element Analysis (ABAQUS) and Matlab.
    • Manage routing and BOM changes for products.
    • Assist with capital equipment purchases, maintenance improvements, and tooling improvements.
    • Support process improvement projects, including tooling design and time studies to improve cost, efficiency, and safety.
    • Engage with the Quality department to design gauges for inspection and testing.
    • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
    • Build and support test programs, including developing test plans, procuring materials, and conducting validation testing.
    • Design and improve test fixturing.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a full-time or part-time student at an accredited college or university.
    • Pursuit of an undergraduate degree in engineering, with a mechanical or mechanical engineering technology focus preferred.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Ability to complete a full-time co-op for 8 months.
    • Authorization to work in the United States without restrictions.
