About the role#
The Surface Science team in Kennesaw, Georgia, is looking for a Tribochemistry Co-Op to join us for a 5-month term starting in May 2027. You will develop laboratory methods to simulate plant emulsion conditions and evaluate how changes in chemistry influence tribological performance and metal surface characteristics.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and maintain emulsion formulations under controlled laboratory conditions.
- Design and execute experiments to simulate emulsion aging under operating conditions.
- Conduct tribological testing and emulsion characterization.
- Characterize aluminum surfaces using analytical techniques to assess changes in surface morphology and chemistry.
- Analyze experimental results and summarize your findings in technical reports and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited 4-year undergraduate or 2-year masters program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Junior or Senior status is preferred for undergraduate students.
- A strong academic foundation in chemistry, materials science, or mechanics.
- Hands-on laboratory experience, including sample preparation and experimental testing.
- Experience with surface characterization techniques and interpreting experimental data.
- Ability to work independently in a research environment.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Current authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
- An interest in surface science, tribology, lubrication, or aluminum processing.
