About the role#
NorthWestern Energy is seeking an intern to support the Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) project. You will work with the Customer Care team to assist in the deployment and mitigation of endpoints for electric and gas meters. This role involves technical training, data gathering for revenue requests, and testing updates with field resources.
What you'll do#
- Support all phases of the AMI project by identifying problems and developing requirements for solutions.
- Implement and enhance project activities while helping to improve business processes and automation.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and apply cybersecurity policies and tools.
- Create and maintain training materials, technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal colleagues to plan, test, and implement system patches and upgrades.
- Collaborate with Customer Care and field teams to support deployment activities.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Engineering, Business, Information Technology, or Computer Science degree program.
- Completion of at least sophomore year by the start date.
- Good academic standing with your GPA provided on your resume.
- General knowledge of Windows operating systems, servers, networks, and security practices.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for documentation and interpersonal interaction.
- Ability to work as a self-starter with a focus on problem resolution.
- Adherence to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Location & details#
- Location: Butte, Montana is preferred, with availability in other Montana and South Dakota service locations.
- Terms: Fall 2026, Summer 2027, and Fall 2027.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
