About the role#
Northrop Grumman is hiring Survivability Engineer Interns for Summer 2027. This role offers exposure to the development and maintenance of survivable systems. You will apply physics and scientific principles to understand low observable design from initial concept through sustainment. You may support sub-disciplines such as electromagnetic, radio frequency, infrared, visual, or acoustic signature analysis.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate with designers and supportability engineers to ensure component and system compliance.
- Develop and integrate technology to reduce system detectability.
- Build and analyze virtual models while implementing analytical codes.
- Design, plan, and execute RCS/RF tests, including data analysis and reporting.
- Evaluate component and system test results to provide recommendations on materials and performance.
- Work with suppliers and vendors on material, technology, and equipment design and delivery.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university, with a graduation date after August 2027.
- Major in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related STEM field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Experience or understanding of Survivability sub-disciplines.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and programming or scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, or Matlab.
- Experience working across engineering disciplines to establish requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The position is based on-site in San Diego, California, or El Segundo, California.
