About the role#
The Structural Engineering Intern works in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of project managers and senior designers. You will perform routine engineering assignments and apply basic engineering principles to complete project requirements. This role provides exposure to the different aspects of a project and the process of assembling a set of plans.
What you'll do#
- Perform calculations and prepare schematics, bills of materials, and engineering specifications.
- Update design drawings in CAD or Revit software.
- Instruct drafters on how to turn designs into completed structural drawings.
- Assist in engineering evaluations, reports, analyses, and designs for new and existing facilities.
- Prepare permit applications and assist with report writing.
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information.
- Research governing criteria, codes, and guides.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, or Architecture.
- Ability to adapt to changes.
- Self-motivated and process-driven mindset.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles, construction practices, and methods is preferred.
- Basic understanding of Revit and engineering design software is preferred.
Location & details#
- This position is located in Huntsville, Alabama.
- Work is conducted on-site in an office setting, with occasional travel to project sites possible.
- This is a temporary, part-time role with a rolling schedule.
- Proof of citizenship is required for employment.
- Candidates may be required to obtain and hold a Secret or higher US Government clearance.
