About the role#
This is an unpaid, full-time internship for the Winter 2027 term based in Charleston, South Carolina. You will join the Family Preservation team to gain hands-on experience working with youth and families. You will also have opportunities to observe other therapeutic areas within the agency to better understand the communities and clients we serve. This role involves working closely with youth, foster parents, and community partners.
What you'll do#
- Provide individual, group, and family mental health services and case management.
- Coordinate and monitor services for youth and families, including mental health, medical, educational, and social services.
- Travel to provide community-based services in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in family reunification and stabilization efforts.
- Review and modify youth-based plans to ensure progress toward goals.
- Complete documentation and training in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in weekly supervision.
- Provide transportation as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Master of Social Work program at an accredited institution.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a comparable Human Services field.
- Your internship or field placement must be a requirement of your academic program.
- Experience in direct service with youth and families is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work flexible and non-traditional hours.
- Capacity to remain objective, professional, flexible, and responsive.
- Proficiency with computers, smartphones, tablets, and software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, a good driving record, and automobile insurance with at least $100,000/$300,000 in bodily injury liability coverage.
