About the role#
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is looking for a Special Programs Intern to support the Missing Children Division. You will assist case managers with long-term missing, abducted, and child homicide cases. This is an unpaid, on-site internship based in Alexandria, Virginia for the Winter 2027 term. You are required to work at least 15 hours per week between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. While the position is unpaid, the organization provides reimbursement for parking or public transportation expenses.
What you'll do#
- Work directly on case files involving long-term missing children, abductions, and child homicides.
- Create narratives for the Long-Term Missing Facebook group.
- Consolidate, analyze, and evaluate incoming leads and reports from various agencies.
- Communicate with law enforcement and family members regarding active cases.
- Perform computer database searches.
- Attend on-site training seminars and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s degree or advanced degree program in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Forensic Psychology, or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- An ability to analyze written materials and communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- A proven ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
