About the role#
The Exploited Children Division (ECD) Intern supports programs focused on the fight against child sexual exploitation. This role involves exposure to sensitive subject matter, including report narratives and descriptions of abuse. Before selection, candidates will meet with the Family Advocacy Division and must attend regular Safeguard sessions throughout the internship.
What you'll do#
- Maintain database systems, including the Child Victim Identification and CyberTipline programs.
- Follow up with domestic and international law enforcement agencies regarding cases and arrests.
- Coordinate feedback requests for law enforcement and assist with quality control for contact databases.
- Research news, technologies, and relevant topics to support ECD analysts.
- Draft success stories and prepare PowerPoint presentation decks.
- Provide information about the mission and resources to interested parties.
- Attend on-site training seminars and communicate with staff and law enforcement officials.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least two years of college with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Communications, or Political Science.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Ability to perform searches in open source and social media platforms.
- Strong organizational, report writing, and time management skills.
- High standards for data entry and quality control.
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
- Successful completion of initial and periodic background checks.
Location & details#
- This role is available on-site in Alexandria, Virginia, or remotely.
- Interns work a minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
- Positions are available on a rolling basis for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- This is an unpaid internship.
