About the role#
The Mission Innovation team at Muon Space investigates how our systems, technologies, and data can address new use cases. As an intern, you will work with this team to develop models, perform analysis, and identify opportunities that expand the reach of our satellite systems. You will collaborate with experienced aerospace professionals to design future missions and contribute to early-stage feasibility assessments.
What you'll do#
- Conduct first-principles scientific and technical analysis to formulate hypotheses for remote sensing data.
- Analyze and interpret geospatial and remote sensing datasets to validate mission concepts.
- Develop models, simulations, and trade studies to support architecture decisions.
- Prepare technical materials and participate in stakeholder needs discussions.
- Collaborate with a small team to investigate new applications for existing Muon Space capabilities.
- Contribute to customer discovery and engagement efforts.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Earth Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in scientific and engineering first principles and problem solving.
- Ability to reason through novel, ambiguous problems.
- Proficiency in a programming or scripting language for data analysis and modeling, such as Python, MATLAB, or Julia.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex technical concepts.
- Curiosity and a willingness to explore unconventional ideas.
- Self-motivated and adaptable nature.
- Experience with remote sensing data, Earth observation, geospatial analysis, or image processing is a plus.
- Coursework or background in atmospheric science, Earth science, or environmental monitoring is helpful.
- Experience engaging with customers or cross-functional collaborators in a technical setting is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Woodbridge, VA.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through September).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $40/hour for Bachelor's students, $45/hour for Master's students, and $50/hour for PhD students.
