About the role#
The Nurse Intern I supports the nursing team by providing direct patient care and maintaining an orderly unit environment. You will work under the direction of a registered nurse to assist with daily patient needs and clinical procedures. This is a per diem, on-site role based in Utica, New York.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care including bathing, oral and hair care, bed making, ambulation, positioning, and toileting.
- Record patient measurements such as vital signs, weights, and intake and output.
- Respond to patient call lights and assist with patient transport.
- Assist the RN with wound care, dressing changes, and exam procedures.
- Perform tasks such as collecting and labeling specimens, setting up oxygen and suction equipment, and applying telemetry electrodes.
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, or traction setup after receiving training.
- Secure and transport medications to and from the pharmacy.
- Sit with patients requiring 1:1 observation.
- Prepare patient rooms for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain unit cleanliness and replenish stock items.
- Alert the supervising RN to any changes in patient conditions or abnormal findings.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Nursing Program.
- Completion of at least one semester of clinicals.
- Prior experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Utica, New York.
- Schedule: Variable shifts, 12-hour shifts.
- Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
- Employment Status: Per diem, non-union.
