About the role#
The Intern I role on the 7th Floor Med Surg unit supports patient care and unit operations. You will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse to assist with daily tasks and procedures that support patient healing. This is a per diem position with a variable shift schedule.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct care including bathing, oral and hair care, bed making, toileting, ambulation, and positioning.
- Take and record vital signs, weights, and intake and output measurements.
- Assist with patient transfers and lifting using proper body mechanics.
- Collect, label, and send specimens to the lab.
- Set up equipment including portable oxygen, suction, and telemetry electrodes.
- Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and exam procedures.
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, or traction setup after training.
- Sit with patients requiring 1:1 observation and assist with transport.
- Secure and transport medications to and from the pharmacy.
- Prepare patient rooms for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain unit cleanliness and replenish stock items.
- Answer patient call lights and respond to emergency situations.
- Alert the supervising RN to any changes in patient conditions or abnormal findings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Nursing Program.
- Completion of at least one semester of clinicals.
- Prior experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
